CINCINNATI/NORTHERN KENTUCKY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT SELECTS NEC TO HELP DEPLOY DIGITAL ADVERTISING SOLUTION
CHICAGO – December 4, 2007
MultiSync LCD4620s Used to Create Dynamic Video Walls, Extensive Display Network Throughout Terminals and Passenger Areas
NEC Display Solutions of America, a leading stand-alone provider of commercial and residential LCD, plasma, and projector displays, and an innovator in advanced digital signage solutions, announced today the successful deployment of a digital signage program at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG). The newly installed, commercial-grade LCD displays are a dynamic replacement of some of the airport’s static advertising properties.

More than 45 of NEC’s 46-inch MultiSync LCD4620 display units were used to create video wall configurations in seven key areas of the airport, including airline gate hold rooms, escalator passages, and the transportation mall where two underground trains connect concourses to terminals. Display clusters include two 3x5 arrangements, four 2x2 arrangements, and a single 57-inch display in a high passenger-traffic area.

“Digital signage is now becoming an essential advertising and information medium for advertisers wanting to engage with consumers who are becoming more and more immune to static media,” said Hans Baumann, Senior Product Manager for NEC Display Solutions. “NEC’s commercial-grade displays and signage-specific feature sets make installations like the CVG Airport achieve the true potential of digital signage.”

Airport officials realized that their facility’s traditional static signage was losing its effectiveness, and they needed a better way to reach visitors in crucial areas of the two-million-square-foot facility. They realized that working with NEC, Alpine Systems and Corey Airport Services to give CVG a signage makeover would make the airport more engaging and, therefore, more successful in marketing to the over 16-million people passing through the transportation hub every year.

“Corey Airport Services brought in some innovative ideas on how we could improve the airport’s advertising revenue,” said Dave Kellerman, Retail Manager for CVG Airport. “The versatility of NEC’s LCD displays lets our advertisers segment their ads, and choose when and where they want their ads to run. The images look incredible, and we’ve been thrilled with the performance so far.”

Not only did the digital signage create new advertising opportunities, but it also allowed for new and engaging city welcome messages, public address announcements and emergency messages, all of which were impossible with static signage. Corey Airport Services will soon have the flexibility to change and update content with the click of a mouse, creating opportunities for month-long features.

“We think these displays raise the bar in terms of what airport advertisers can do with their creative messages,” said Steve Moody of Corey Airport Services, the advertising concessionaire at CVG airport. “The NEC LCD4620 displays are commercial grade, and made specifically for digital signage purposes and displaying high-quality graphic design, so advertisers can now create dynamic animations that have a greater impact on the traveling public.”

“Businesses advertising with us are now able to create more detailed ads and make more targeted decisions, which will drive their revenue, and, in turn, is beneficial for us,” said Kellerman. “The decision to switch to digital signage has been so valuable for the airport’s business, and the new use of video walls brings something unique to our space while maintaining a constructive purpose.”
